Robins Air Force Base… A Multi-Service, Multi-Mission Installation
Robins Air Force Base is a superior large, aviation centric military
installation facilitized to host a wide variety of front-line defense
missions including: operational and flying missions, weapon systems
management functions, Title 10 depot maintenance functions and a diverse
set of DoD mission support agencies. Robins AFB is a vital part of the
nation’s defense and is a critical center of operational readiness.
Most importantly, Robins provides the Department of Defense (DoD) unparalleled “Military
Value” with its future mission capabilities and contribution to
operational readiness.
Robins Air Force Base is the largest single-site industrial complex in
Georgia. It is situated on 8,435 acres and contains more than 14 million
square feet of maintenance, administrative and storage facilities. Robins
has the largest runway in Georgia and more than 1,400 family housing units.
Currently, the base employs more than 27,020 civilian service workers,
military members, contractors, and non-appropriated fund employees. Peripheral
services created to serve these personnel have been roughly calculated
at an additional 36,855 jobs. Together the Robins jobs plus the peripheral
jobs total 63,875 jobs or approximately 30.84% of the jobs in the area!

As a key DoD a multi-service, multi-mission installation, Robins is home
to 60+ military organizations, including the Air Force Reserve Command
Headquarters; the 116th Air Control Wing and its E-8C Joint Surveillance
Targeting and Attack Radar System aircraft; the 5th Combat Communications
Group; the 19th Air Refueling Group and its KC-135R Stratotankers; the
339th Flight Test Group; Defense Contract Management Agency; Defense Logistics
Agency; Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office; Defense Security Agency;
and the Defense Information Systems Agency. Additionally, the 78th Air
Base Wing provides force deployment capability and oversight of base infrastructure
and support organizations. When compared to a traditional single-mission
base, the 78th Air Base Wing greatly reduces the DoD overhead requirement
by capitalizing on the synergy afforded by collocation of functions.
The largest single mission and the host organization at Robins is the
Warner Robins Air Logistics Center (ALC). The Warner Robins ALC is one
of the Air Force’s three air logistics centers and one of the three
largest depot repair facilities in the DoD. The Air Force Logistics Centers
are the largest, most modern and most efficient of the eight DoD Aviation
Depots. Warner Robins ALC provides sustainment capability for a wide variety
of DoD weapons systems in the form of program management, supply management
and depot maintenance.
The Warner Robins ALC is the Airlift Center of Excellence for the Air
Force, and as such, provides worldwide support to the Nation’s airlift
forces through sustainment management of the C-17, C-5, C-130, C-141 aircraft.
In addition, the center also serves as the “sustainment manager” for
Combat Systems such as the F-15, JSTARS, U-2, Intelligence, Surveillance
and Reconnaissance and Space and Special Systems, Combat Electronic Systems
and Vehicles and Support Equipment, and Special Operations Systems for
the Air Force. To execute this capability, Robins has developed over 30
sustainment Public-Private Partnerships with industry, assuring a responsive
and integrated industrial base to meet the needs of the warfighter.
For over 62 years the Warner Robins and Middle Georgia Communities have
partnered with Robins Air Force Base to support the execution of assigned
missions and to provide quality of life amenities for assigned personnel.
The Warner Robins Chamber sponsors the Warner Robins Military Affairs
Committee, one of nine such Middle Georgia Committees. The Warner Robins
Military Affairs Committee works closely with other Middle Georgia Military
Affairs Committees to provide caring support to the men and women of Robins
AFB. Notably, the Military Affairs Committees play a key role in caring
for the needs of the families of deployed service members. In addition
to opening their hearts and homes for conversation and support, the Military
Affairs Committees offer a long list of free/deeply-discounted services
including car care, childcare, home maintenance, entertainment and lawn
care.
Additionally, the Warner Robins Area Chamber of Commerce and other community
leaders support the 21st Century Partnership, a non-profit organization,
composed of elected and non-elected Middle Georgians, which functions
as the one community focal point for providing support for Robins Air
Force Base. The Partnership enhances support of the missions at Robins,
monitors the constantly changing defense environment, and recognizes the
excellent civilian and military workforce at Robins. The Partnership embodies
the sound and unique partnership between the base and the Warner Robins
community.
Truly, Every Day in Middle Georgia is Air Force Appreciation Day!
THE AEROSPACE INDUSTRY
The Warner Robins Area Chamber of Commerce, Aerospace Industry Committee
(AIC) boasts over 120 member companies and over 180 individual members.
The AIC is organized for the purpose of preserving, advancing and enhancing
the community of aerospace and defense industries in the Warner Robins
area and for the advancement of their collective interests. The Committee
shall also engage in those programs and projects, which are designed
to stimulate capital investment and jobs creation within and throughout
the Middle Georgia aerospace and defense sectors. The Committee views
as essential its ability to serve as a point of appropriate and effective
interface with senior military and civilian management personnel of
Robins Air Force Base, the United States Air Force, and local, state
and national elected leadership.
