THE CHARLES K.
SHAHEEN
SMALL BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AWARD
The Charles K. Shaheen
Small Business of the Year Award is presented annually to one
outstanding small business in the Robins Region.
Typically, this has been an honor bestowed on one of the companies that
has earned recognition as Small Business of the Month in the previous
year.
The award is traditionally presented at the Chamber's Annual Dinner held
in January.
In 2008, the award has taken on a special meaning. This year, the
monthly award
process is being chaired by Chuck Shaheen, the son of the late Chuck
Shaheen, Jr., for whom the award is named.
Chuck Shaheen, a native of Bingham, New York, retired from the United
States Air Force 1971, taught and started the Junior Air Force ROTC at
Warner Robins High School. 1972 he started Shaheen Office Supply in
Warner Robins, eventually opening three other stores, Hawkinsville, Fort
Valley and Perry.
Mr. Shaheen was very active in Georgia Office Products, Salvation Army
Houston Drug Action Council, Warner Robins Little Theatre, the Miss
Warner Robins pageant and many other organizations. He considered his
employees as family. His entire family, Barbara, Chuck, Donna and
son-in-law Joe were also a part of the business.
The Shaheens not only have a tradition for familiy business; they have
an equally rich tradition with involvement in the Warner Robins Area
Chamber. Most folks who have been around the Robins Region a while can't
really remember a time when a Shaheen was not engaged in a leadership
position with our organization. Both Mr. Shaheen and his wife,
Mrs. Barbara Shaheen, have served as Chairman of the Board at our
Chamber.
Mr. Shaheen's motto “We care about you, We appreciate your business” was
prominently displayed on the wall of his business locations.
Care and appreciation remains a tradition and the Robins Region is a
better place for the efforts of the late Mr. Shaheen and his family.
